HomeSourced Inc., a fast-growing outsourcing company based in Mandaue City, Philippines, has formalized its partnership Utah State University (USU) for its Small Enterprise Education and Development (SEED) program.
On March 6th, SEED Executive Director Mike Glauser and Program Coordinator Andy Thunell met with the company executives and managers to discuss the program and partnership. They visited the company’s headquarters at the Space Building in AS Fortuna St., Banilad. Mandaue.
This collaboration aims to give back to the community by creating opportunities to help and improve the lives of HomeSourced employees and members of the local community as the program will be open to anyone interested in undergoing the SEED Program.
What is SEED?
SEED is an international internship experience where USU students interested in social entrepreneurship will live in target areas for a full semester to teach. They will mentor, and assist entrepreneurs in developing countries. The program will teach small-time, micro business owners or budding business owners about business principles. Mentors will guide them come up with a sound business plan, secure funding and assets for their business, and guide them as they grow their respective businesses.
“We are excited to be working with SEED to make a positive impact on our community,” said HomeSourced Inc.’s President, Austin Anderson. “As a company, we believe in giving back and supporting the growth not just of our local economy but also our own teammates at HomeSourced,” Anderson added.
He also mentioned that the HomeSourced employee that comes up with the best business plan after this program could possibly get funding from the company.
‘Business mindset’
“We are encouraging all our teammates to have a business mindset. Employment in an outsourcing company is just a path towards future business ownership that provides long-term support to employees.,” Anderson said.
SEED has been helping small business owners in Manila for some time now and is looking to expand to Cebu. The program is also available in other developing countries such as Ghana, Peru, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Cambodia. It has also helped more than 10,000 people.
According to Thunnel, the program has significantly improved the household income of participants. As a result family nutrition improved and several success stories include participants supporting their children through college.
SEED’s mission is to connect skilled and passionate students with the opportunity to empower individuals, families, and communities through teaching enterprise creation and sustainability in developing regions of the world. SEED students make an impact on the world while having a transformative experience that distinguishes them from their peers.
